Simrad NSX 3012 Bundle with HALO20+ Radar and Active Imaging 3-in-1 — Product description

Complete Simrad three-piece bundle: the 12-inch NSX 3012 chartplotter/fishfinder with SolarMAX IPS touchscreen, the HALO20+ 20-inch pulse-compression Doppler radar dome, and the Active Imaging 3-in-1 transom transducer (CHIRP + SideScan + DownScan). For mid-sized cruising and sport-fishing boats that want chart, sonar, and radar in one factory-paired kit.

This bundle is what most mid-sized cruising and sport-fishing boats actually want as a turn-key Simrad upgrade. The 12-inch NSX 3012 chartplotter handles the helm, the HALO20+ pulse-compression dome handles the radar picture, and the Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer handles down-scan, side-scan, and CHIRP traditional sonar from a single transom-mount housing. Buying the three pieces individually means a stack of separate SKUs and a real risk of leaving something out. The bundle ships everything you need in one box, with the components engineered to work together out of the gate.

The NSX 3012 is the modern Simrad chartplotter, built around the SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen that reads in direct sun and through polarized sunglasses. The interface is touchscreen-driven with drag-and-drop screen customization, day/night modes, and the Setup Wizard that walks you through initial install without hunting through menus. C-MAP DISCOVER X and REVEAL X charts ship pre-loaded with daily updates available through the Simrad companion app. Autorouting takes your destination and your boat's draft and computes a safe route that avoids hazards, no-go zones, and shallows. For most cruisers that's the navigation workflow they actually want. You don't need a separate route planner on a laptop. The chartplotter handles it.

The HALO20+ radar dome is the headline upgrade in this bundle for safety-conscious operators. Pulse compression is the modern radar technology that lets the dome detect at long range (up to 36 nautical miles in this configuration, displayed as 48 nm on the chartplotter) and at very short range (down to 20 feet) without the magnetron tradeoffs older radars carry. VelocityTrack Doppler colors approaching targets red and receding targets green on the chartplotter screen, which on a busy harbor entry at night or in fog is the difference between scanning every blip for closing course and instantly picking out the targets that matter. The 60 RPM ultra-fast rotation at ranges up to 1.5 nautical miles gives you a near-real-time picture of close-in traffic that traditional 24 RPM domes can't match. Beam sharpening digitally enhances small-target detection so kayaks, crab pots, and channel markers show up cleanly against background clutter.

The Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer is the transom-mount all-in-one that handles the fishfinder side of the install. CHIRP traditional sonar covers fish-arch detection and bottom finding. SideScan casts the picture out 100 to 200 feet on either side of the boat for finding isolated structure and bait schools. DownScan shows the photo-like vertical view directly below the boat. FishReveal overlays fish targets from CHIRP onto the SideScan and DownScan images, which makes individual fish stand out against bottom structure without manual interpretation. For deeper offshore work the NSX 3012 also accepts 1 kW external transducers through the network if you outgrow the included Active Imaging.

Connectivity is where the Simrad ecosystem pays off. The chartplotter supports full Simrad autopilot integration for setting and adjusting course from the helm screen. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 cover instruments, VHF radios, AIS receivers, engine data, and any third-party gear that speaks the standard protocols. The Simrad companion app gives you waypoint sync, route planning, software updates, and chart data transfer over Wi-Fi. For most cruising and sport-fishing operators the integrated three-piece bundle plus the autopilot is the complete navigation suite. If you decide to add ForwardScan forward-looking sonar, an open-array radar upgrade, or live-sonar transducers later, the network accepts all of those as expansion options. The bundle ships with mounting hardware for the chartplotter and the radar dome, the transducer with cable, the radar cable for the dome-to-helm run, and the documentation. Plan on installer-level work for the radar mast install and the transom transducer drilling. We can recommend an installer in your area if you need one.

Frequently asked questions

What's actually in the bundle?

The NSX 3012 12-inch chartplotter, the HALO20+ 20-inch pulse-compression radar dome with cable, and the Active Imaging 3-in-1 transom-mount transducer with cable. Mounting hardware for the chartplotter (flush and bracket) is included. The radar mast bracket, any extra network cables beyond the standard included lengths, and the installation labor are separate.

Will the HALO20+ fit my boat?

The HALO20+ is sized for mid-to-large cruising and sport-fishing boats roughly 25 to 50 feet. For smaller boats the standard HALO20 (without the Doppler) or the more compact HALO24 are alternatives. For larger boats running serious offshore work the HALO open-array radars are the step up. Tell us your boat type and radar mast situation and we'll confirm before you order.

What does VelocityTrack actually do?

VelocityTrack is the Doppler target-coloring feature on the HALO20+. Approaching targets paint red, receding targets paint green, stationary returns stay in the standard radar palette. On a screen full of returns at night or in fog, the color coding makes closing targets immediately obvious without manual target acquisition. It's the practical safety upgrade most operators notice first.

Can I add a live-sonar transducer later?

Yes. The NSX 3012 supports the Simrad ActiveTarget live-sonar transducer over the network. ActiveTarget gives you real-time forward-looking sonar similar to other live-sonar products in the market. The transducer plus the network module are separate purchases, and the chartplotter is ready to display the live picture as soon as you network the hardware.

What charts come with it?

C-MAP DISCOVER X and C-MAP REVEAL X charts pre-loaded covering US Inland and Coastal waters at minimum. Daily chart updates are available through the Simrad companion app. C-MAP coverage is global, and additional regional chart packs are available as needed. The chartplotter also accepts third-party C-MAP cards in the microSD slot.

Does the included Active Imaging transducer cover deep water?

The Active Imaging 3-in-1 is sized for inshore and shallow-to-mid-depth work, typically usable down to about 500 feet on the CHIRP side. For deeper offshore work (1,000-plus feet bottom finding or canyon-edge fishing), the NSX 3012 supports 1 kW external transducers through the network connector. We can spec the right 1 kW transducer pairing for your boat if you need the deeper range.

What about the autopilot?

The NSX 3012 integrates with the Simrad autopilot lineup for full course control from the chartplotter screen. The autopilot is a separate purchase. If you've got an autopilot from another manufacturer on NMEA 2000, the basic monitoring and course display will work but full screen control is specific to Simrad-brand autopilot computers.

Will it work on my 12V system?

Yes. The NSX 3012 chartplotter and the HALO20+ radar both accept 12V or 24V DC input, so standard powerboat and sailboat house bank voltages are both supported without a converter.

Is the touchscreen the only way to operate it?

Yes, the NSX 3012 is touchscreen-driven. Simrad's touch implementation handles wet fingers and moderate spray well, but for boats where you need hard-button operation in heavy weather, an older NSS or NSO unit with a separate rotary dial might be a better fit. The NSX is the modern interface. The older units have more physical controls.

What's the warranty?

Simrad's standard marine electronics warranty applies, 2-year limited on the chartplotter and the radar dome, longer on certain components. Coverage details are in the box. Simrad's customer service handles in-warranty work directly.
