B&G Zeus3S 9 Sailing MFD Bundle with HALO20+ Radar
B&G Zeus3S 9 Sailing MFD Bundle with HALO20+ Radar — Product description
Complete B&G bundle for blue-water cruisers and racers: the 9-inch Zeus3S sailing chartplotter with SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen and the HALO20+ 20-inch pulse-compression radar dome. Built-in sailing features (SailSteer, Laylines, RacePanel, SailingTime, PredictWind), 60 RPM radar rotation for collision avoidance, VelocityTrack Doppler target coloring, and Dual Range mode for watching close-in hazards and distant weather at the same time.
This bundle pairs B&G's 9-inch Zeus3S sailing chartplotter with the HALO20+ pulse-compression radar dome as a complete navigation package for mid-to-large sailboats. The Zeus3S is the chartplotter half: 9 inches of all-weather SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen with hybrid touch-plus-rotary-dial-plus-keypad control. The SolarMAX HD IPS panel reads in direct sun even through polarized sunglasses, which on a deck under tropical sun matters more than it sounds. The hybrid control set is the right answer for sailing. The touchscreen handles waypoint placement and pan-zoom. The rotary dial handles range and gain adjustments without taking your eyes off the chart. The keypad keeps working when the touchscreen is wet or you've got gloves on for a cold-weather race. It's the input setup most racers settle on after a season of mixed conditions.
The sailing-specific feature set is what separates the Zeus3S from a general-purpose chartplotter. SailSteer consolidates wind data, speed through water, heading, and the next waypoint into a single tactical screen that you can read at a glance during a beat. Laylines plot the optimal tack angles for your boat in real time, factoring in wind shifts and current set, so you can lay the upwind mark without overstanding. RacePanel is the start-line tactical screen with line bias, distance-to-line countdown, and fleet position tracking for clean starts. SailingTime calculates ETA to the next waypoint accounting for tacks rather than assuming you can sail straight there. PredictWind integration pulls professional weather forecasting onto the chart with grib overlays for route planning. If you're a racer, the RacePanel and Laylines features alone justify the upgrade from a generic chartplotter. None of these features are afterthoughts. They're what the Zeus3S was designed around.
The HALO20+ radar in the bundle is the 20-inch pulse-compression dome from the HALO family. Pulse compression is the modern technology that lets the dome detect at long range (up to 36 nautical miles) and at very short range (down to 20 feet) without any of the magnetron tradeoffs an older radar would make. Beam sharpening sharpens target returns digitally so small targets like crab pots, kayaks, and distant whitecaps show up cleanly against background clutter. Dual Range lets you display two range scales simultaneously from the single antenna, which for an offshore cruiser means watching the close-in collision picture and the distant weather cell at the same time without flipping between them.
VelocityTrack Doppler is the headline operational feature on the HALO20+ for cruising and racing safety. Approaching targets paint red on the chartplotter, receding targets paint green, stationary targets stay in standard radar colors. The visual cue is instant: a single glance at the radar page tells you which boats are closing on you and which are running away, without manual target acquisition. Combined with the 60 RPM ultra-fast rotation at ranges up to 1.5 nautical miles, the HALO20+ delivers a near-real-time picture of the close-in traffic environment that traditional 24 RPM radar domes simply can't match. For shipping lanes, busy race courses, and harbor entries, the fast scan plus Doppler coloring is the safety upgrade most operators notice first. It's the kind of feature you don't realize you needed until you've used it for a season.
The bundle ships with the HALO20+ dome and a 20-meter signal cable to run from the radar mast position back to the Zeus3S chartplotter. The Zeus3S accepts the radar over its Ethernet port and integrates the radar overlay onto the chart. Both units run on 12V or 24V DC, which covers standard sailboat house bank voltages without converters. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networking handles the rest of the boat's instruments: wind, depth, speed-through-water, autopilot, AIS, VHF, and digital switching where installed. Built-in Wi-Fi pulls weather and chart updates from the cloud and pairs with the B&G companion app on a smartphone or tablet. ForwardScan sonar is supported through the Marine Network for cruisers who want forward-looking depth in shallow-water approach. The Zeus3S supports the H5000 high-performance instrument processor for serious offshore racing systems. We can spec the full instrument network with you before you order.

Sailing radar installs benefit from a check before you order. Tell us your mast configuration (if you have a dedicated radar mount or need a backstay pole), your house bank voltage, and your existing wind instrument and autopilot setup. We'll confirm the bundle is the right pick or recommend a different HALO dome size if the 20-inch doesn't suit your boat.

Frequently asked questions
What's included in the bundle?
The Zeus3S 9-inch chartplotter with mounting hardware and power cable, the HALO20+ 20-inch radar dome with the 20-meter signal cable, and the documentation. The radar mast bracket and any extra cables beyond the included 20 meters are sold separately based on your boat layout.
Will the HALO20+ fit my sailboat?
The HALO20+ is a 20-inch dome sized for mid-to-large sailboats. For smaller boats with limited mast space the HALO20 (without the +) or the smaller HALO24 dome are alternative choices. For larger blue-water cruisers and offshore race boats, the HALO24 or HALO open-array radar are usually the right step up. Tell us your boat size and the radar mast configuration and we'll confirm.
What does VelocityTrack actually do?
VelocityTrack is the Doppler target-coloring feature. Targets moving toward your boat paint red on the chartplotter, targets moving away paint green, stationary returns stay in the standard radar palette. On a screen full of returns at night in fog or in a shipping lane, the color coding makes closing targets immediately obvious without manual target acquisition. It's one of the practical safety upgrades that most cruisers notice first.
Does the radar work at very short range?
Yes, that's one of pulse compression's main advantages. Detection drops to 20 feet (about 6 meters) minimum, which is close enough to be useful for harbor entries and close-quarters maneuvering where older magnetron radars have a near-target blind. The 60 RPM ultra-fast rotation at 1.5 nautical miles and below also gives you a near-real-time picture of close-in traffic.
What sailing instruments work with this chartplotter?
The Zeus3S networks with the B&G instrument lineup over NMEA 2000: wind, depth, speed-through-water, masthead instruments, autopilot, AIS, VHF radios. For serious offshore performance applications, the H5000 high-performance processor adds advanced targeting and computed performance numbers. Any NMEA 2000 instrument from the marine industry will integrate as long as it follows the standard.
Is this MFD ready for a forward-looking sonar?
Yes. The B&G ForwardScan sonar transducer connects over the Marine Network and shows forward-looking depth on the chartplotter. ForwardScan is what cruisers use for approaching uncharted anchorages or shallow-water bar crossings where a downward sonar isn't enough warning. The transducer and the network cable are sold separately.
Can I run racing tactics on this unit?
Yes. The RacePanel feature handles start-line tactics with line bias, countdown timer, and distance to line. Laylines compute the optimal tack angles in real time factoring in wind shifts. SailingTime computes ETA accounting for tacking. For more advanced race tactics you'd add the H5000 instrument processor, which adds polar tables, target boat speed, and computed performance numbers.
What's the chartplotter's screen size?
9 inches. For helm cockpits with limited space, the 9-inch Zeus3S is the right balance of usable real estate and panel footprint. Larger 12-inch and 16-inch Zeus3S variants exist for nav stations and helm pods with more room.
Will it run on my 12V boat?
Yes. The Zeus3S and the HALO20+ both run on 12V or 24V DC, so standard sailboat house banks at either voltage work without a converter.
What's the radar warranty?
B&G's standard marine electronics warranty applies to both the chartplotter and the radar dome. 2-year limited on most components. Coverage details are in the box. B&G's customer service handles in-warranty work directly.
