Frequently Asked Questions

What size battery bank do I need for the Freedom HF 1800?

For optimal performance, we recommend a minimum 400Ah battery bank at 12V. Larger battery banks (600-800Ah) will provide longer runtime and better charging efficiency. Consider your power consumption needs and typical usage patterns when sizing your battery system.

Can this unit run a marine air conditioning system?

The Freedom HF 1800 is not designed to power marine air conditioning systems, which typically require 2000-5000+ watts. This unit is ideal for electronics, lighting, small appliances, and entertainment systems. For AC systems, consider larger pure sine wave inverters.

How does the automatic transfer switch work?

When shore power is connected, the built-in 30A transfer relay automatically switches your AC loads to shore power and begins charging your batteries. When shore power is disconnected, it seamlessly switches back to inverter power without interruption to your connected devices.

What's the difference between modified and pure sine wave?

Modified sine wave is suitable for most marine electronics, motors, and resistive loads like lights and heaters. Some sensitive equipment like laser printers or variable speed tools may require pure sine wave. The Freedom HF's modified sine wave works excellently with typical marine applications.

How do I install this unit on my boat?

The Freedom HF 1800 features quick-connect AC terminals for simplified installation. Mount in a dry, ventilated location near your battery bank. Connect DC cables with appropriate fusing, AC input from shore power panel, and AC output to your distribution panel. Professional installation is recommended for optimal safety and performance.

Will this work with lithium batteries?

The Freedom HF 1800 can work with lithium batteries, but you may need to adjust charging parameters or use the "Fixed 13.5V" setting depending on your lithium battery management system requirements. Consult your lithium battery manufacturer for specific charging recommendations.

The Freedom HF Inverter/Charger is one of the smallest, lightest, and most affordable inverter/chargers in the market today. The Freedom HF Inverter/Charger features modified sine wave output and is designed to operate entertainment systems and small appliances in boats, RV’s and trucks. Some of the key feature enhancements include quick-connect AC terminal block on both AC input and output for incredibly easy installation. The ignition lockout feature minimizes battery drain by disabling the inverter when the ignition is turned off.
