A hatch lift is a gas strut that holds a hatch or locker lid open and lets it close gently, which keeps fingers safe and protects the lid. The two numbers that matter are the extended length and the force rating. The length must match the span between your mounting points when the hatch is open, and the force has to be enough to hold your specific lid weight without being so strong it forces the hatch open on its own.
