The Minn Kota Ultrex 112/MSI/IP is the flagship freshwater bow-mount trolling motor that combines cable-actuated foot-pedal steering (with electric power-steering assist and steering lock) with the full i-Pilot Link integrated GPS trolling system: Spot-Lock with Jog, AutoPilot, recorded paths, mobile app and color touch-screen remote control, plus Bluetooth integration. 36 volts, 112 pounds of thrust, 60-inch composite shaft, built-in MEGA Side Imaging and MEGA Down Imaging sonar with Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring, Lift-Assist for stow / deploy, Digital Maximizer for 5x run time, and the indestructible composite shaft guaranteed for life. The trolling motor for serious tournament rigs and big-water fishing boats.</p>

The Minn Kota Ultrex 112 with MEGA Side Imaging, MEGA Down Imaging, and i-Pilot Link (part 1368887) is the freshwater bow-mount trolling motor at the top of the Minn Kota Ultrex line. The Ultrex platform is the only Minn Kota that combines a foot-pedal cable steering feel with electric power-steering assist (the cable feel anglers grew up with, but with the steering effort of an electric-steer motor) and the full i-Pilot Link GPS suite. The 1368887 is the highest-spec Ultrex configuration: 112 pounds of thrust on 36 volts (the maximum thrust class for freshwater bow mounts), the 60-inch composite shaft, built-in MEGA Side and Down Imaging sonar in the motor head, and the i-Pilot Link bundle for full GPS-driven boat control with Bluetooth.

What makes Ultrex different from Terrova. Both are Minn Kota's flagship bow mounts with similar GPS feature sets, but they differ in how they steer. Terrova is electric steer only: you steer from the wireless remote, the foot pedal, or the GPS commands, and there's no mechanical steering linkage. Ultrex adds the cable steering linkage from a traditional foot pedal, with electric power-steering assist that makes the cable steering effort light. The result is the analog cable steering feel anglers know (rock the foot pedal, the motor swings) combined with the precision and convenience of GPS-driven boat control. For tournament anglers who fish heads-down with the foot pedal in constant use, the Ultrex's cable feel is preferred. For anglers who run mostly off Spot-Lock and AutoPilot from the remote, the Terrova is fine.

Power steering with steering lock. The electric power-steering boost in the Ultrex foot pedal is what makes the cable steering effort light. No more wrestling with the heavy foot effort of older cable-steer motors. Combined with the steering lock feature, the motor head stays pointed where you left it when you take your foot off the pedal. No recoil back to center, no spring tension fighting your foot. Set the heading, take your foot off the pedal, the motor holds.

i-Pilot Link integrated GPS. The i-Pilot Link is the top-tier Minn Kota GPS trolling system. The color touch-screen remote (included) controls Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, recorded paths, contour following, and waypoint navigation directly from the angler's hand. With a One-Boat Network compatible fish finder, the integration goes further: drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder display, send the trolling motor to a fishing waypoint set on the chartplotter, follow depth contours read from the chart, all over the network. The Bluetooth connection lets the trolling motor talk to the Minn Kota mobile app on iOS or Android for additional control and software updates.

Spot-Lock with Jog. Spot-Lock drops a GPS waypoint at your current location and locks the boat to that exact spot regardless of wind and current. Jog (enabled by the heading sensor included in the Link bundle) lets you bump the locked spot 5 feet in any direction without releasing and re-engaging Spot-Lock. The combination is the standard for hands-free positioning over fish-holding structure.

AutoPilot heading-hold. Point the motor in the direction you want to travel, tap AutoPilot, and the motor holds that heading regardless of wind side-load. Tap again to disengage. Combined with variable-speed Digital Maximizer thrust control, AutoPilot lets you run a long structure pass at any speed without managing the steering manually.

Built-in MEGA Side Imaging and MEGA Down Imaging sonar. The Ultrex 112/MSI/IP variant has MEGA Side Imaging and MEGA Down Imaging transducers built directly into the motor head. The transducer is positioned for clean acoustic returns from below and to the sides of the boat, with the cabling routed through the trolling motor's shaft (Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring). For anglers running compatible fish finders that can display the MEGA SI / MEGA DI feeds, this gives you OEM-integrated side and down imaging without a separate transducer purchase or a separate cable run. The MEGA SI / DI returns produce near-photographic resolution of structure, fish, and bottom contour.

Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring. The transducer cable runs entirely inside the trolling motor's shaft and out through the motor mount, with shielded connectors that resist interference and corrosion. No external cable to snag, no exposed transducer dragging in the water, no cable to chew up on rocks or trees. The sonar setup looks clean and is mechanically protected.

Digital Maximizer for 5x run time. The microprocessor-controlled motor controller delivers exactly the motor power needed for the speed setting you've dialed in, instead of the constant-current resistor system on older trolling motors. The result is up to 5 times longer run time per battery charge at typical low-to-mid speed settings. For tournament-day use at speed settings 3-5, a deeply-discharged-friendly 36V battery pack runs all day.

Lift-Assist for stow and deploy. The patented Lift-Assist mechanism in the Ultrex bow mount cuts the lifting effort to stow and deploy the trolling motor in half. With 112 lb of motor weight on the lever, the unassisted stow / deploy is a real workout. The Lift-Assist mechanism (gas spring or torsion mechanism depending on generation) reduces the manual lifting force to where one hand handles it easily.

Indestructible composite shaft, guaranteed for life. The composite material flexes under impact rather than bending or breaking. Hit a stump, run aground, take an impact, and the shaft springs back to straight. Minn Kota guarantees the shaft for life: if it ever bends or breaks under normal use, they replace it free. Shaft failure is the most common reason trolling motors get scrapped on older boats. The lifetime guarantee removes that failure mode entirely.

Battery meter on the motor head. Tap the push-to-test button on top of the trolling motor and the LED bar shows current battery state. Quick check without reaching for the head unit or the chartplotter. Useful for deciding whether to head back to the launch or fish another hour.

What 112 lb / 36V does for boat control. 112 pounds of thrust is the maximum thrust class in the freshwater Minn Kota line. For 17-22 foot fishing boats it's overkill (the 80 lb Terrova covers that range). The 112 lb is the right thrust for 21-25 foot deep-V multi-species boats, big-water bay boats fished freshwater, and any boat that operates regularly in heavy current or large wind chop where the additional thrust is needed to maintain Spot-Lock or AutoPilot accuracy.

What's in the box. Ultrex 112/MSI/IP motor with built-in MEGA Side and Down Imaging, i-Pilot Link color touch-screen remote, lanyard, heading sensor, foot pedal (cable steer with power-assist controls), MKP-33 Weedless Wedge 2 prop, bolt-on bow mount with Lift-Assist, mounting hardware. Required separately: three 12V deep-cycle marine batteries (sold separately), 6-AWG (or heavier) battery cable, and a 60A circuit breaker on the positive cable.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Ultrex and Terrova?

Steering. Terrova is electric steer only: you steer from the wireless remote, the foot pedal, or GPS commands, and there's no mechanical steering linkage. Ultrex adds a cable steering linkage from the foot pedal, with electric power-steering assist that makes the cable steering effort light. Result: the analog cable steering feel of older Minn Kotas combined with the precision of GPS-driven control. Tournament anglers who fish heads-down with the foot pedal in constant use prefer Ultrex. Anglers who run mostly off Spot-Lock and AutoPilot from the remote do fine with Terrova.

How is this different from the standard Ultrex 112?

Two things. First, this 1368887 has built-in MEGA Side Imaging and MEGA Down Imaging sonar in the motor head with Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring. The standard Ultrex 112 doesn't have built-in sonar (you'd add a separate transducer). Second, this configuration includes the i-Pilot Link bundle (color touch-screen remote, heading sensor for Jog, Bluetooth, full integration with compatible fish finders). The standard Ultrex 112 may ship with the basic i-Pilot bundle (smaller monochrome remote, no Link integration features).

Will 112 lb thrust be too much for my boat?

For 17-22 foot fishing boats, yes - 80 lb is plenty. For 21-25 foot deep-V multi-species boats, big-water bay boats, or any boat that fishes heavy current or large wind chop, 112 lb is the right thrust. The general guideline: 5 lb of thrust per 200 lb of fully-loaded boat weight. A 4500 lb fully-loaded boat needs about 113 lb of thrust to maintain Spot-Lock and AutoPilot accuracy in tough conditions. The 112 lb Ultrex is right at that point. Below 4000 lb fully loaded, the 80 lb Ultrex saves money without sacrificing capability.

What batteries do I need?

Three 12-volt deep-cycle marine batteries wired in series for 36V. Group 31 deep-cycle AGM (typical: 100-110 Ah each) is the cost-effective long-life option. 12V LiFePO4 lithium (typical: 100-200 Ah each) gives more usable amp-hours per pound and faster recharge but costs significantly more. Don't use starting batteries. they aren't designed for the deep-discharge cycles trolling motor use puts them through. Wire the batteries in series (positive of battery 1 to negative of battery 2, etc.), not in parallel.

How long does it run on a charge?

Depends on speed setting and battery capacity. Typical fishing-day use at speed settings 3-5 with three Group 31 deep-cycle AGM batteries: 8-12 hours of mixed trolling and Spot-Lock holding. At full thrust the same setup runs about 1-2 hours. With 200 Ah lithium batteries, run time roughly doubles. Digital Maximizer makes a real difference at low-to-mid speed settings, where the Ultrex draws much less current than a non-Digital trolling motor at the same speed.

How does Spot-Lock with Jog work?

Spot-Lock drops a GPS waypoint at your current location and uses the trolling motor to hold the boat on that exact spot regardless of wind and current. The motor automatically thrusts forward, back, left, and right to maintain position. Jog (enabled by the included heading sensor) lets you bump the locked spot 5 feet in any direction without releasing Spot-Lock. So if you're locked on a spot but want to scoot 5 ft toward a piece of structure, tap Jog in that direction and the boat moves there and re-locks.

Does it work with my chartplotter?

With a One-Boat Network compatible fish finder, the integration is full: drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder display, send the trolling motor to a fishing waypoint set on the chart, see trolling motor status on the fish finder. With non-Network fish finders, the trolling motor still has its full Spot-Lock and AutoPilot capability via the i-Pilot Link color touch-screen remote and the foot pedal.

What does the built-in MEGA Side / Down Imaging do?

The MEGA Side Imaging and MEGA Down Imaging transducers are built into the trolling motor head. The transducer scans to the sides of the boat (Side Imaging) and straight down (Down Imaging) at MEGA's high-resolution frequencies. Connect the trolling motor's transducer cable to a compatible fish finder that supports MEGA SI / DI display, and you see near-photographic resolution of structure, fish, and bottom contour on the screen. No separate transom-mount transducer required.

Is it saltwater rated?

No. The Ultrex is Minn Kota's freshwater line. For saltwater, the Riptide Ultrex is the same motor with saltwater-grade construction. Don't use the freshwater Ultrex in saltwater - the corrosion will quickly destroy the motor and the warranty doesn't cover saltwater damage.

Will it fit my boat?

Bow-mount, bolt-on installation. Standard Minn Kota mount-plate footprint. If you're upgrading from a previous Minn Kota bow-mount trolling motor, the existing four mount holes may line up directly. The 60-inch shaft works for boats with about 18-22 inches from the bow deck to the water surface. For higher-bow boats (deeper-V hulls, jon boats with built-up bow platforms), the longer 72-inch or 87-inch shaft variants of the Ultrex line are the right choice.

What's the warranty?

3-year limited motor warranty plus lifetime warranty on the indestructible composite shaft. The shaft warranty is one of the standout features: if the composite shaft ever bends or breaks under normal use, Minn Kota replaces it for free for the life of the motor. Service runs through the Minn Kota authorized dealer network in the U.S.
