Minn Kota Ulterra 80 i-Pilot Bluetooth Trolling Motor 24V 60in

The Minn Kota Ulterra 80 (model 1358920) is the auto-deploy / auto-stow Minn Kota Ulterra in the 24V 80-pound thrust class with the 60-inch indestructible composite shaft. The Ulterra is the only Minn Kota electric-steer bow-mount trolling motor with fully automatic stow and deploy: press the deploy button and the motor lifts itself out of the cradle and lowers into the water on its own. Press the stow button and it lifts itself out of the water and back into the stowed position. Add Power Trim for setting the motor's operating depth from the helm without ever touching the motor, the included i-Pilot wireless remote with full GPS trolling capability, Bluetooth for mobile-app control and software updates, the built-in Universal Sonar 2 transducer, and the Weedless Wedge propeller, and you have the trolling motor that you genuinely never have to touch by hand.

What separates the Ulterra from the Terrova and PowerDrive lines. Auto Stow / Deploy is the Ulterra-only feature. Both Terrova and PowerDrive require manual lift to deploy and stow (with Lift-Assist on Terrova making the manual lift easier). The Ulterra automates the entire deploy and stow operation. Press the deploy button on the wireless remote, the motor lifts itself out of the cradle and lowers into the water automatically. Press the stow button when you're done fishing, the motor lifts itself out of the water and back into the cradle. Power Trim is the second Ulterra-only feature. After deploy, the motor's operating depth (how deep the prop sits below the surface) can be adjusted from the wireless remote with Power Trim. Move the prop deeper for clean water in heavy chop, raise it shallower for grass-heavy conditions or when you're worried about hitting a submerged stump at speed. With Power Trim, you adjust trim depth from the helm without leaning over the bow to manually adjust the motor by hand. Combined with Auto Stow / Deploy, this means you genuinely never have to touch the motor by hand during normal operation.

The 24V 80-pound thrust configuration is sized for serious bass and walleye boats in the 18 to 22 foot range. 80 pounds of thrust at 24V is enough power to position the boat against moderate wind and current while keeping battery requirements at a manageable two batteries (for 24V) instead of the three batteries that 36V motors require. For larger boats over 22 feet or for boats fishing in serious open-water conditions, the higher-thrust 36V Ulterra variants give more pulling power.

The 60-inch indestructible composite shaft is the right shaft length for boats with bow heights in the 16 to 20 inch range above the waterline. Long enough to keep the prop fully submerged in chop and on plane, short enough to clear typical bridges and shallow-launched waters. The composite shaft is lifetime-guaranteed: hit a stump or rock and the shaft flexes and recovers without the trip-ending damage of a bent aluminum shaft.

The i-Pilot GPS trolling system is the headline GPS feature. The included wireless remote gives you full GPS-based motor control: Spot-Lock GPS anchoring, AutoPilot heading hold, recorded path playback, speed and steering control. Spot-Lock holds the boat over a specific GPS coordinate using thrust corrections, fighting wind and current automatically. AutoPilot holds the motor on a chosen heading. Recorded path playback turns one productive pass into many. The full feature set is what's made i-Pilot the standard for serious tournament fishermen.

Bluetooth pairing in this generation lets the Ulterra connect to your iOS or Android phone via the i-Pilot Link mobile app. From the app you can control the motor (deploy, stow, spot-lock, autopilot), monitor system status, and update the Ulterra's software wirelessly. Multiple control surfaces work simultaneously: the wireless remote, the foot pedal (also redesigned for Auto Stow / Deploy operation), and the smartphone app all coexist on the same motor.

The built-in Universal Sonar 2 transducer (US2) is the integrated transducer that lives inside the lower unit of the motor. Connect the US2 cable to a compatible fishfinder and the chartplotter receives sonar data from the trolling motor without needing a separate transducer mounted on the trolling motor shaft. Cleaner install (one fewer transducer to mount and wire), and the US2 transducer position at the bottom of the trolling motor lower unit is the right place for traditional sonar (looking straight down beneath the bow). For owners who want MEGA Side Imaging or other advanced sonar, those use a separate transducer mounted on the trolling motor shaft.

The redesigned foot pedal is the manual control option for owners who want to operate the motor with their feet while keeping their hands on the rod. Press the deploy and stow buttons on the foot pedal to operate Auto Stow / Deploy without picking up the wireless remote. Standard cable-steer foot pedal operation for steering and speed control. The foot pedal coexists with the wireless remote: the angler at the bow uses the foot pedal, the second angler can use the wireless remote, both controlling the same motor.

Digital Maximizer technology is the variable-speed power management that gives you up to 5x longer runtime on a single battery charge compared to fixed-speed motors. Instead of running at full motor power and pulse-width-modulating to slow down, Digital Maximizer delivers only as much current to the motor as the speed setting requires. Dramatic battery savings, especially at low and medium throttle settings.

The Weedless Wedge propeller (MKP-33) included with this motor is the right prop for trolling through grass, weed beds, and floating debris. Swept-back flared blades push debris away from the prop hub instead of catching it. For freshwater anglers fishing southern grass lakes, milfoil-heavy northern lakes, and any other vegetation-heavy water, this prop genuinely matters.

What this motor isn't. It is not a saltwater motor (this is the freshwater Ulterra. for saltwater use the Riptide Ulterra has the corrosion protection).
