The remote handles full trolling motor control plus four programmable shortcut buttons that can be configured for the boat's most-used functions - making it meaningfully more flexible than a fixed-function remote. The 1866655 is the additional or replacement remote (the trolling motor itself ships with one remote already paired - the 1866655 lets you add second / third remotes for multi-angler boats or replace a damaged primary remote).

Multi-remote pairing - up to 3 remotes per system. The Advanced GPS Navigation system supports pairing with up to 3 wireless remotes simultaneously. For multi-angler boats (typical of guided fishing where the captain and 1-2 guests all want trolling motor control, or tournament fishing where the boater and co-angler each want their own remote), each angler holds their own remote and any remote can control the trolling motor. The remotes don't conflict - the trolling motor responds to whichever remote sent the most recent command. For solo anglers, one remote is sufficient and the additional remotes are unnecessary.

Compatible Advanced GPS Navigation systems. The 1866655 is engineered for the Bluetooth-enabled variant of the Advanced GPS Navigation system - the modern Minn Kota trolling motor architecture used in current production Riptide Instinct, Ulterra QUEST, Terrova QUEST, and similar Advanced GPS-class motors. For older trolling motors using the original Advanced GPS Navigation system without Bluetooth, the 1866655 doesn't pair - those motors need the older non-Bluetooth remote variant. Four programmable One-Boat Network buttons. The remote's most distinctive feature is the four customizable shortcut buttons - three on the keypad face and one side button - that you program to your most-used functions via the One-Boat Network app. Common programmable functions:

Talon and Raptor shallow-water anchor control. Connected Minn Kota Talon (vertical-deploying shallow-water anchor pole) or Raptor (hydraulic shallow-water anchor) units can be deployed or stowed via the programmable buttons.
