Minn Kota PowerDrive 70 24V 60" w/Micro Remote + CHIRP Sonar — Product description

The Minn Kota PowerDrive 70 with built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar and 60-inch shaft is the freshwater bow-mount trolling motor for anglers running deeper hulls who want sonar imagery built into the motor head. 70 pounds of thrust, 24V power, Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, the wireless Micro Remote, and lifetime composite shaft warranty.

The Minn Kota PowerDrive 70 60-inch with Dual Spectrum CHIRP is the upgrade pick in the PowerDrive line. It's the same proven 70-pound 24V freshwater drive as the standard PowerDrive 70, with two upgrades that change how you fish: a 60-inch shaft instead of 54, and a Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar transducer built right into the motor head. If your fishfinder display can talk to it, you get a clean, prop-noise-free sonar feed from a transducer that's always under the bow, exactly where you're fishing.

The 60-inch shaft is the right call for boats with a bow that sits 16 to 22 inches above the waterline. That covers many bass boats with taller decks, walleye boats with raised front platforms, and pontoons with a higher rail. On those boats, a 54-inch shaft cavitates and ventilates the prop in chop because the bow lifts higher than the shaft can compensate for. The 60 keeps the prop buried where you need it.

The built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP nosecone is the feature that justifies the upcharge over the base PowerDrive 70. It's a real CHIRP sonar transducer with wide and narrow modes, mounted at the leading edge of the motor head, with the wiring routed cleanly through the shaft so there's nothing dangling and nothing to snag. The transducer feeds standard sonar signal to a compatible fishfinder display through a single connector. Because the transducer lives in front of the propeller and well below the hull, you get sonar returns that aren't muddied by prop turbulence the way a transom-mount transducer can be when you're slow-trolling on plane.

Compatibility note. The Dual Spectrum CHIRP nosecone connects to compatible fishfinder displays in the One-Boat Network ecosystem. If you already run a compatible display on your boat, the connection is straightforward and the sonar imagery shows up alongside your existing transom or thru-hull transducer feeds. If you don't have a compatible display, this transducer doesn't replace one. Talk to us about display compatibility before you order if you're unsure.

Spot-Lock and AutoPilot are unchanged from the base PowerDrive. GPS holds your boat over a piece of structure without an anchor. Spot-Lock locks within a few feet on calm water, more drift in wind. AutoPilot keeps a heading hands-free. The Micro Remote is small enough to clip to a lanyard around your neck and gives you steering, speed, Spot-Lock, and AutoPilot from anywhere on the boat. Range is about 100 feet in open conditions.

Digital Maximizer is the variable-speed power management system that's been a Minn Kota staple for years. It draws only the amperage you need at the speed you set instead of dumping full power at every notch. Anglers running two Group 27 or Group 31 deep-cycle batteries on a 24V setup typically get a full day of fishing on a single charge, even with steady Spot-Lock work plus the sonar transducer drawing its small additional power load. Pair the PowerDrive with a quality on-board charger and you'll be ready the next morning without thinking about it.

The Push-to-Test Battery Meter on the motor head shows charge state at a glance via a quick LED. The Deploy-Assist Lever drops and stows the motor with one hand. The composite shaft is a Minn Kota exclusive and they back it with a lifetime guarantee against breakage. Composite gives you flex on impact instead of bending or snapping. The Power Prop (MKP-37) is the standard prop on the PowerDrive line and bites well in open water and moderate cover.

The motor is One-Boat Network compatible, so it pairs with compatible displays and chargers in the same ecosystem for shared battery state and motor control. AutoPilot and Power Steering are both standard, which means small touches on the remote translate to smooth course changes instead of overshooting.

Install. Bolt this on a flat bow with the included mounting hardware and run a 6-gauge tinned wire run back to your batteries. Keep the run short. The sonar nosecone wiring runs to a separate sonar port on your display, sized for the standard Dual Spectrum CHIRP connector. The motor's main power and the sonar transducer feed are independent runs, so you have clean separation between the high-current motor circuit and the low-noise sonar circuit. That helps keep your sonar imagery clean.

Maintenance. Freshwater motors are forgiving compared to their saltwater siblings, but a quick fresh-water rinse and a wipe-down at the end of each trip extends the life of the seals and the connectors. Inspect the prop for line wraps and weed buildup, especially after a day in heavy hydrilla or milfoil. Replace the prop nut shear pin if you bump a stump hard.

Two-year limited warranty on the motor, lifetime guarantee on the composite shaft against breakage. Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between this and the standard PowerDrive 70?

Two things: this SKU has a 60-inch shaft (vs 54 on the standard) and includes a built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar transducer in the motor head. Same 70 lb thrust, same 24V drive, same Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, Power Steering, Digital Maximizer, and Micro Remote control. If your bow sits taller than 14 inches above the waterline or you want sonar imagery from the bow, this is the version to buy.

What boat size is right for the 60-inch shaft?

Boats with a bow that sits 16 to 22 inches above the waterline. That covers bass boats with taller decks, walleye boats with raised front platforms, and pontoons with higher rails. On boats with lower bows, the 54-inch shaft is cleaner and you don't need the extra length. On boats with even taller bows, look at a 70-inch or longer shaft.

Does the built-in sonar replace my transom transducer?

It can, but it doesn't have to. The built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP is a separate sonar feed to your fishfinder display. Most anglers run both: the bow transducer for live fishing imagery, the transom for trolling and depth confirmation under the boat. They show up as separate sources on the display.

What displays does the sonar work with?

Compatible One-Boat Network fishfinder displays. If you already have a compatible display on the boat, this is plug-and-play through a single connector. If you don't, the sonar transducer requires a compatible display to show imagery. Confirm display compatibility with us before ordering if you're unsure.

How does Spot-Lock work?

Spot-Lock uses GPS to hold your boat in place without an anchor. Mark a spot on the Micro Remote and the motor steers and throttles automatically to keep you within a few feet of that spot. It works best in calm to light chop. In strong wind on a small jon boat, expect more drift, but it still beats anchoring most days.

What batteries does it need?

24V power. That's two 12V deep-cycle marine batteries wired in series. Group 27 or Group 31 batteries are the most common pairing for a full day of fishing with active Spot-Lock use plus the sonar transducer running. Pair them with a good on-board charger so you're ready the next morning.

What size wire should I run from the batteries?

6-gauge tinned marine wire is the minimum for the typical bow-mount run. Keep the run as short as you can. The motor's main power and the sonar transducer feed are independent runs, so you have clean separation between high-current motor power and low-noise sonar signal.

Can I use this in saltwater?

No. This is the freshwater PowerDrive. It does not have the multi-stage corrosion treatment that the Riptide PowerDrive line has. If you fish brackish or salt regularly, look at the Minn Kota Riptide PowerDrive 70 with the equivalent shaft length, or the Riptide QUEST series.

Does the motor come with a foot pedal?

No. This SKU is remote-only and ships with the wireless Micro Remote. The PowerDrive at this remote configuration does not include a foot pedal. If you prefer foot pedal steering, look at a different PowerDrive control style.

Is it One-Boat Network compatible?

Yes. It pairs with One-Boat Network compatible displays and chargers so the system shares battery state, motor control, and waypoint data. The built-in sonar transducer also works through the same ecosystem for clean signal integration.

How long is the warranty?

Two-year limited warranty on the motor and a lifetime guarantee on the indestructible composite shaft against breakage.

Why CHIRP sonar instead of standard 2D?

CHIRP sweeps a range of frequencies on each ping instead of pulsing at a single frequency. That gives you better target separation (you can see two fish stacked instead of seeing one fat blob), better bottom detail at a wider range of depths, and better discrimination between fish, weed, and structure. It's the modern standard for serious freshwater fishfinders.
