The Minn Kota PowerDrive 55 with Micro Remote and Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar (part 1358452) is the GPS-equipped freshwater bow-mount trolling motor that puts Spot-Lock and AutoPilot capability into the 55 lb thrust class - features that previously required stepping up to the more expensive Terrova line. 12 volts (one battery, no series wiring complexity), 55 pounds of thrust on the 54-inch composite shaft, the new Micro wireless Remote for handheld control, built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar in the motor head with Universal Sonar 2 concealed transducer wiring, and One-Boat Network compatibility for cross-device control with compatible fish finders. The right 55 lb trolling motor for anglers who want GPS Spot-Lock and modern feature set without the price of the Terrova platform.

What 55 lb / 12V is right for. 55 lb of thrust on 12 volts suits 16-19 foot freshwater fishing boats, typical bass boats, jon boats, and multi-species boats up to about 2200 lb fully loaded. The general Minn Kota guideline is 5 lb of thrust per 200 lb of fully-loaded boat weight, so the 55 lb PowerDrive handles boats up to about 2200 lb confidently. For boats over 19 feet or over 2500 lb, step up to the higher-thrust PowerDrive variants or the larger Terrova / Ultrex lines.

Spot-Lock with GPS. The Spot-Lock function is the headline GPS feature that previously required stepping up from PowerDrive to Terrova. Press the Spot-Lock button on the Micro Remote and the trolling motor uses GPS to anchor the boat to your exact current position, automatically thrusting and steering to fight wind and current to hold the boat there. Press release and the boat is free to move again. Spot-Lock is the single biggest workflow upgrade for fishing structure: drop on a productive spot, lock it, fish until done, release, move to next spot. No noisy mechanical anchor, no rope handling, no drift before set.

AutoPilot heading-hold. AutoPilot maintains the trolling motor's heading at a chosen direction, automatically correcting against wind and current to hold the boat tracking straight. Useful for making a long pass over structure or along a shoreline without constantly correcting steering. Set the heading by pointing the motor where you want to go, tap AutoPilot on, and the motor maintains that heading.

Built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar. The PowerDrive 55 with Dual Spectrum CHIRP variant has the CHIRP sonar transducer built directly into the motor head with Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring (the transducer cable runs entirely inside the trolling motor's shaft). Connect the trolling motor's transducer cable to a compatible fish finder via the included HELIX adapter cable and you get OEM-integrated Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar without a separate transducer purchase or external cable run. Dual Spectrum CHIRP gives you Wide Mode (broader sonar cone, maximum coverage) and Narrow Mode (tighter cone, sharper individual target separation) selectable on the head unit.

Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring. The transducer cable runs entirely inside the trolling motor's shaft and out through the motor mount, with shielded connectors that resist interference and corrosion. No external cable to snag, no exposed transducer dragging in the water. Clean install, mechanically protected.

Micro Remote wireless control. The Micro Remote is the new compact wireless remote in the Minn Kota line - key-fob-size, waterproof, with a CR2450 coin-cell battery for months of typical use, and a neck lanyard included. Controls Spot-Lock, speed, steering, and AutoPilot. Pairs with the trolling motor over Bluetooth. The Micro Remote replaces the older full-size i-Pilot remote on this configuration - smaller form factor, simpler interface, lower cost. For owners who want the more elaborate i-Pilot Link color touch-screen remote, that's available as a separate purchase.

Foot pedal not included. Note: this PowerDrive 55 variant ships with the Micro Remote as the primary control input, NOT a foot pedal. For foot-pedal control, see the PowerDrive 55 with foot pedal variant (different part number) or buy a side-to-side electric foot pedal separately. For boats where the angler prefers wireless remote control over foot pedal, the no-pedal configuration saves money and removes one more cable to manage on the deck.

One-Boat Network compatible. With a One-Boat Network compatible fish finder on the boat, the PowerDrive 55 integrates for cross-device control: drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder display, send the trolling motor to a fishing waypoint set on the chartplotter, see trolling motor status on the fish finder display. The integration unlocks workflows that aren't possible with stand-alone components.

Power steering. The motor steers via electric power-steering, not via direct cable pull. Steering effort is light regardless of motor load (the motor handles the actual steering work). The light effort is what makes the Micro Remote's small steering buttons feel responsive and precise.

Digital Maximizer for 5x run time. The microprocessor-controlled motor controller delivers exactly the motor power needed for the speed setting you've dialed in, instead of the constant-current resistor system on older non-Digital trolling motors. The result: up to 5 times longer run time per battery charge at typical low-to-mid speed settings. For typical fishing-day use, the Digital Maximizer extends run time meaningfully.

Push-to-test battery meter. Tap the button on top of the trolling motor and the LED bar shows current battery state. Quick check without reaching for the chartplotter or remote.

Power Prop (MKP-37). The PowerDrive ships with the MKP-37 Power Prop, the open-water optimized prop in the Minn Kota line. The Power Prop has the right blade geometry for pushing the boat efficiently in open water and through normal current. For weed-heavy water, the Weedless Wedge 2 (MKP-33) prop is the better swap-in choice (sold separately).

Indestructible composite shaft, lifetime guaranteed. The composite material flexes under impact rather than bending or breaking. Hit a stump, run aground, take an impact, and the shaft springs back to straight. Minn Kota guarantees the composite shaft for life: if it ever bends or breaks under normal use, they replace it free.

Deploy-Assist lever. The patented Deploy-Assist lever in the PowerDrive bow mount cuts the manual lifting effort of stow / deploy in half. For solo anglers who launch and load alone, the Deploy-Assist is meaningful daily quality of life.

What's in the box. PowerDrive 55 lb 54-inch motor with built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP and Universal Sonar 2, Micro Remote with lanyard, MKP-37 Power Prop, bolt-on bow mount and mounting hardware. Required separately: one 12V deep-cycle marine battery, 8-AWG (or heavier) battery cable, 60A inline circuit breaker, foot pedal if desired, and the appropriate fish finder cable adapter for your specific fish finder model.

2-year limited Minn Kota warranty on the motor (lifetime warranty on the composite shaft). Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the version with a foot pedal or without?

Without. This PowerDrive 55 variant ships with the Micro Remote as the primary control input, NOT a foot pedal.

Does it really have Spot-Lock?

Yes. Spot-Lock is the headline GPS feature on this PowerDrive 55 variant - previously required stepping up to the more expensive Terrova line. Press the Spot-Lock button on the Micro Remote and the trolling motor uses GPS to anchor the boat to your exact current position, automatically thrusting and steering to fight wind and current. Press release and the boat is free to move again. Spot-Lock is the single biggest workflow upgrade for fishing structure.

What's the difference vs. Terrova at the same thrust?

The PowerDrive 55 with this configuration now has Spot-Lock and AutoPilot - features that used to differentiate Terrova. The remaining Terrova differences: lift-assist for easier stow / deploy on heavy motors, more sophisticated i-Pilot Link integration with full color touch-screen remote, Jog (5-foot Spot-Lock bump), and a slightly more refined overall feel. For owners who want Spot-Lock and AutoPilot in the 55 lb class without the Terrova premium, the PowerDrive 55 with GPS is the right choice.

What's Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar?

Dual Spectrum CHIRP is the built-in sonar in the trolling motor head. CHIRP sweeps across a range of frequencies on each ping for better target separation than fixed-frequency sonar. Dual Spectrum gives you two modes: Wide (broader sonar cone, maximum coverage) and Narrow (tighter cone, sharper individual target separation). Wide for surveying, Narrow for confirming exactly what you found. The transducer is built into the motor head with Universal Sonar 2 concealed wiring (the cable runs inside the trolling motor's shaft).

How does the trolling motor's sonar connect to my fish finder?

Via the appropriate adapter cable for your specific fish finder model. The trolling motor's Dual Spectrum CHIRP transducer cable terminates in a Minn Kota Universal Sonar 2 connector that needs the matching fish finder adapter (sold separately based on your fish finder brand and model). Once connected, the fish finder displays the Dual Spectrum CHIRP returns the same way it would display returns from a separately-installed CHIRP transducer.

What batteries do I need?

One 12-volt deep-cycle marine battery, sold separately. Group 27 or Group 31 deep-cycle AGM (typical: 100-110 Ah) is the cost-effective long-life option. 12V LiFePO4 lithium gives more usable amp-hours per pound and faster recharge but costs more. Don't use starting batteries - they aren't designed for the deep-discharge cycles trolling motor use puts them through.

How long does it run on a charge?

Depends on speed setting and battery capacity. Typical fishing-day use at speed settings 3-5 with a Group 31 deep-cycle AGM battery: 8-10 hours of mixed running. At full thrust the same setup runs about 1-2 hours. Digital Maximizer makes a real difference at low-to-mid speed settings, where the PowerDrive draws much less current than a non-Digital trolling motor at the same speed.

What controls come with it?

The Micro Remote (Bluetooth wireless, waterproof, key-fob size, neck lanyard included). It controls Spot-Lock, speed, steering, and AutoPilot - the four most-used trolling motor functions. For owners who want a more sophisticated controller (color touch-screen with mapping, recorded paths, advanced waypoint management), the i-Pilot Link remote is available as a separate purchase. For owners who want foot-pedal control in addition to or instead of remote control, that's a separate purchase too.

Will it work with my fish finder?

For sonar integration, you need the appropriate Minn Kota Universal Sonar 2 adapter cable for your specific fish finder brand and model (sold separately). For One-Boat Network cross-device control (drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder, send the trolling motor to a chart waypoint, etc.), you need a compatible One-Boat Network fish finder. Check the One-Boat Network compatibility list for your specific fish finder.

Will it fit my boat?

Bolt-on bow-mount installation. Standard Minn Kota mount-plate footprint. If you're upgrading from a previous Minn Kota bow-mount trolling motor, the existing four mount holes may line up directly. The 54-inch shaft works for boats with about 14-18 inches from the bow deck to the water surface (typical for 16-19 ft fishing boats). For higher-bow boats, step up to the longer 60-inch shaft variant.

Is it saltwater rated?

No. The PowerDrive is the freshwater Minn Kota line. For saltwater, the Riptide PowerDrive is the same motor with saltwater-grade construction. Don't use the freshwater PowerDrive in saltwater - the corrosion will quickly destroy the motor and the warranty doesn't cover saltwater damage.

What's the warranty?

2-year limited motor warranty plus lifetime warranty on the indestructible composite shaft. Service runs through the Minn Kota authorized dealer network in the U.S.
