Lowrance ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar (Module + Transducer + Mounts) — Product description

The Lowrance ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar is the second-generation live-imaging system that lets you watch fish move and react to your bait in real time. Higher resolution and a wider field than the original ActiveTarget. Forward, Down, and Scout views from a single transducer. Module, transducer, and trolling motor / transom mounts in the box. For HDS Live, HDS Carbon, HDS PRO, and Elite FS displays.

The Lowrance ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar is the second generation of the live-imaging tech that reshaped tournament bass fishing in the past few years. Where traditional 2D and Down Imaging show you a scrolling history of where you've been, ActiveTarget shows you live video of fish moving right now in front of, below, or around the boat. Once you've fished with it, you don't go back. ActiveTarget 2 sharpens the imagery, widens the cone, and adds smoothing improvements that make rough-water use a lot more usable than the original.

This SKU is the complete kit: the ActiveTarget 2 module (the black box that does the actual sonar processing), the ActiveTarget 2 transducer (the small wing-shaped sensor that does the imaging), and a set of mounts that work for both trolling motor and transom installs. Add it to a compatible Lowrance display and you have live sonar at the helm or the bow.

The transducer has three view modes you toggle from the display. Forward View aims the cone ahead of the boat, which is the mode you use 80 percent of the time when you're casting to specific fish or working a piece of structure ahead. You see the bait fall, you see the fish track it, you see whether they bit or peeled off. Down View aims straight down for vertical jigging or for verifying what's directly under the boat. Scout View is the overhead panorama that sweeps in front of you, useful for finding bait balls and schools quickly when you're searching new water.

If you run an HDS PRO display, you can pair two ActiveTarget 2 transducers and get true Forward+Back coverage, where one transducer points forward and the second points behind, plus a Scout Wide view that uses both transducers for an even wider sweep. For tournament boats, the dual-transducer setup is the difference between knowing what's around you and only knowing what's in front of you.

Compatibility. ActiveTarget 2 works with HDS Live, HDS Carbon, HDS PRO, and Elite FS displays. The Forward+Back / Scout Wide dual-transducer modes are HDS PRO only. If you're running an older Elite or Hook unit, you'll need to upgrade the display to use ActiveTarget 2. Update your display firmware before connecting the module so the unit recognizes ActiveTarget 2 (the original ActiveTarget firmware doesn't know what to do with the second-gen module).

Stabilization is the underrated improvement over the original ActiveTarget. The first-gen unit was great in calm water and frustrating in chop because the imagery would jump and flicker as the transducer rocked with the boat. ActiveTarget 2 adds image stabilization that compensates for transducer motion, so your view of the underwater scene stays steady even when the boat is moving. On a windy reservoir or a chop-rolling lake morning, the difference is dramatic.

Range and resolution. ActiveTarget 2 sees fish out to about 100 to 150 feet at typical fishing depths, with sharper detail at longer ranges than the original. The exact useful range depends on water clarity, depth, and what you're looking at, but the practical case is that you can see a school of crappie at 50 feet ahead clearly enough to count individual fish.

Power. 12 or 24V DC, 10.8 to 31.2V acceptable range, 1.5A maximum draw. Reverse polarity protection is built in. The module has its own power cable separate from the display power, with a standard 4-pin connector. Run the power on a dedicated marine-grade tinned wire with proper fusing.

Mounting. The included mount hardware works for both trolling motor and transom installs. For trolling motor mounting (which is how most owners run it), the transducer clamps to the trolling motor shaft below the head. For transom mounting, the included transom bracket provides a stable platform with adjustable angle. Trolling motor mount is the right call for finding fish ahead of where you're going, transom mount is the right call if you're driving the boat without a trolling motor or you want sonar coverage during transit.

The transducer cable is 25 feet long, which is enough for trolling motor mounting on most bow-mount installs and for transom mounting on most boats up to about 30 feet. The Ethernet cable from the module to the display is 15 feet long, sized for typical helm-to-bow runs.

What's in the box. ActiveTarget 2 module, ActiveTarget 2 transducer, 25-foot transducer cable, 15-foot Ethernet cable, 4-pin power cable, trolling motor and transom mount hardware, and the install instructions. Display is sold separately. Existing ActiveTarget owners can upgrade just the transducer with the appropriate transducer-only SKU, but this kit is the complete first-time install.

One year limited Lowrance warranty on the module and transducer. Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

What's actually in the box?

The ActiveTarget 2 module (the processor box), the ActiveTarget 2 transducer, a 25-foot transducer cable, a 15-foot Ethernet cable to the display, the 4-pin power cable, trolling motor and transom mount hardware, and install instructions. Display is sold separately. This is the complete first-time install kit.

What's the difference between ActiveTarget 1 and ActiveTarget 2?

Three things. Higher resolution imagery so fish and structure look sharper at longer ranges. Wider field of view so you see more of the scene at once. Image stabilization that compensates for transducer motion in chop, which is the upgrade that makes ActiveTarget 2 actually usable in rough water. The original was great calm and frustrating in wind. ActiveTarget 2 fixes that.

What displays does it work with?

HDS Live, HDS Carbon, HDS PRO, and Elite FS Lowrance displays. The dual-transducer Forward+Back and Scout Wide modes are HDS PRO only. Older Elite, Hook, and HDS series before HDS Live require a display upgrade to use ActiveTarget 2. Update your display firmware before connecting the module so the unit recognizes the second-gen hardware.

What are the three view modes?

Forward View aims the sonar cone ahead of the boat, which is the mode you use most for casting to specific fish or working structure. Down View aims straight down for vertical jigging or seeing what's directly under the boat. Scout View is an overhead panorama sweeping ahead of the boat for finding bait balls, schools, and structure layouts at a glance. You toggle between modes from the display.

How far can it see?

Practically, 100 to 150 feet at typical fishing depths. The exact useful range depends on water clarity, depth, and what you're looking at, but the practical case is that you can see a school of crappie at 50 feet ahead clearly enough to count individual fish, or see a bass tracking your bait from 30 feet out.

Should I mount it on the trolling motor or the transom?

Trolling motor mount is right for most owners because the trolling motor is what you use to position the boat for casts, so the live sonar is pointed where you're fishing. Transom mount works if you don't have a trolling motor or you want sonar coverage during transit, but you give up the ability to point the cone independently of the boat's heading.

What's the dual-transducer setup do?

On an HDS PRO display, pairing two ActiveTarget 2 transducers gives you Forward+Back mode (one transducer aimed forward, the other aimed behind) for true 360-degree live coverage, plus Scout Wide which uses both transducers for an extra-wide overhead panorama. For tournament boats, this is meaningful. For weekend fishing, one transducer is enough.

What kind of power does it need?

12 or 24V DC, 10.8 to 31.2V acceptable range, 1.5 amps maximum draw. Reverse polarity protection is built in. Run the module on a dedicated marine-grade tinned wire with proper fusing, separate from the display power. The 4-pin power connector on the module is the standard Lowrance accessory connector.

Does it replace my existing transducer?

No. ActiveTarget 2 is an additional sonar source, not a replacement for your standard transducer. You'll typically run your standard CHIRP / DownScan / SideScan transducer for general fish-finding, plus the ActiveTarget 2 for live-imaging the specific area you're casting to. The display switches between sources or shows them split-screen.

Will it work in shallow water?

Yes. ActiveTarget 2 works in shallow water down to a couple of feet, with Scout mode being especially useful for sight-fishing on flats and bays. The minimum useful depth is roughly two feet of water under the transducer.

Is the install hard?

Trolling motor mount install is typically under an hour with basic tools. The transducer clamps to the trolling motor shaft, the cable runs up through the bow, the module mounts in a dry compartment, and the Ethernet cable runs to the display. Transom mount is similar with the bracket bolting to the transom. The biggest install considerations are cable routing and clean power runs.

How long is the warranty?

1-year limited Lowrance warranty on the module and transducer. Service runs through the Lowrance authorized dealer network in the U.S.
