Lowrance HDS PRO 16 with C-MAP Discover + Active Imaging HD — Product description

The Lowrance HDS PRO 16 is the 16-inch flagship in the HDS PRO line, with the SolarMAX HD touchscreen viewable at extreme angles and through polarized sunglasses, ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar ready, Active Imaging HD ready (transducer included), FishReveal with SideScan and DownScan, preloaded C-MAP Discover OnBoard charts (1-foot contours on 19,000+ U.S. lakes and 9,400+ Canadian lakes), and full networked control of compatible Power-Pole anchors, Ghost trolling motor, autopilot, and Lowrance Outboard Pilot. Includes the Active Imaging HD 3-in-1 transducer in the box.

The Lowrance HDS PRO 16 (model 000-15990-001) is the 16-inch flagship in the HDS PRO fishfinder / chartplotter line, configured with the bundled Active Imaging HD 3-in-1 transducer (Lowrance part 000-16062-001) and the preloaded C-MAP Discover OnBoard chart package. The SolarMAX HD touchscreen viewable at extreme angles and through polarized sunglasses, ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar ready (transducer sold separately), Active Imaging HD ready (transducer included), FishReveal smart target imaging with SideScan and DownScan views, real-time mapping via C-MAP Genesis Live, and full touchscreen control of compatible Power-Pole anchors, Ghost trolling motor, autopilot, and Lowrance Outboard Pilot. The right MFD for serious tournament anglers and offshore fishermen who want the biggest screen and most capable platform Lowrance offers.

What makes the HDS PRO line different from the standard HDS LIVE. HDS PRO is the top-of-line Lowrance MFD platform with the SolarMAX HD display (the brightest and most readable Lowrance display ever), faster processing for handling the high-resolution data streams that ActiveTarget 2 and Active Imaging HD generate, full support for the latest networked accessories including Ghost trolling motor 360 chart overlays, and the integrated control surface that lets you manage Power-Pole, Ghost, autopilot, and outboard pilot from one touchscreen. HDS LIVE is the previous-generation HDS line that still works well but lacks the SolarMAX HD display and the latest accessory integrations. For owners building a flagship Lowrance helm, HDS PRO is the right line.

The 16-inch SolarMAX HD touchscreen is the practical reason to step up to the 16-inch HDS PRO. At 16 inches diagonal with the SolarMAX HD display technology, the screen has enough real estate for genuinely usable five- or six-panel split-screen presentations (chart plus traditional sonar plus SideScan plus DownScan plus ActiveTarget plus instruments) while delivering the brightness and viewing-angle performance to read every panel clearly in direct sunlight. The polarized-sunglasses compatibility is the under-appreciated feature: many marine displays go black or color-shift dramatically when viewed through polarized lenses (which most boaters wear for glare reduction), and the SolarMAX HD handles polarized lenses normally so the display works the same whether you're wearing sunglasses or not.

ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar ready means the head unit can drive the latest-generation ActiveTarget 2 transducer (sold separately) when you add it to the install. ActiveTarget 2 is the Lowrance forward-facing live-scanning sonar that shows fish swimming around your boat in real time, similar in concept to the live-scanning sonars from competing brands but with Lowrance's specific imagery presentation and ActiveTarget Scout 360 chart overlay capability. For tournament bass fishing and serious structure work, ActiveTarget 2 changes how productively you can fish.

Active Imaging HD ready, with the transducer included in this bundle, gives you Lowrance CHIRP traditional sonar plus high-definition SideScan and DownScan Imaging at frequencies up to 1.2 MHz. The included 3-in-1 transducer (part 000-16062-001) handles Medium and High CHIRP at 83/200 kHz, plus 455 / 800 kHz and 455 / 1.2 MHz scanning frequencies. FishReveal smart target imaging overlays CHIRP fish marks onto the DownScan structure imagery so you can identify which fish marks correspond to which structure features.

FishReveal with SideScan view (in addition to DownScan) is the new feature in this generation. FishReveal traditionally combined CHIRP sonar fish marks onto the DownScan view. with the new SideScan FishReveal capability (requires S3100 sonar module and compatible transducer for full SideScan FishReveal), you also get the same fish-mark overlay on the SideScan presentation. For inshore fishing where you're searching with SideScan to find structure, FishReveal SideScan tells you which structure has fish on it without switching views.

C-MAP Discover OnBoard charts preloaded is the chart package included in this SKU. 1-foot depth contours on more than 19,000 U.S. lakes and more than 9,400 Canadian lakes. Coastal coverage for U.S. waters. The contour detail on Discover OnBoard is significantly better than the basic mapping that ships with most chartplotters. For freshwater fishermen targeting structure, the 1-foot contours show breaks, ledges, humps, and other structural features that 3-foot or 5-foot contour charts wash out. Upgrade to C-MAP Reveal for additional aerial imagery overlay and other premium features.

Real-time mapping with C-MAP Genesis Live is the make-your-own-bathymetric-chart feature. Drive the boat over the area you want to map, the unit records depth and bottom hardness in real time using the included transducer, and you have your own custom chart of that spot saved to the SD card and optionally synced to the Genesis cloud network. Especially useful for fishing small ponds and lakes that don't have detailed commercial coverage, or for mapping productive areas at finer resolution than commercial charts provide.

Power-Pole anchor control from the touchscreen lets you deploy and stow Power-Pole shallow water anchors directly from the chartplotter without picking up a separate Power-Pole remote. Useful for boats running paired Power-Poles where you want both anchors deployed simultaneously, or for solo anglers who don't want to manage a second remote in addition to the trolling motor remote.

Ghost trolling motor control gives you full touchscreen control of the Lowrance Ghost trolling motor: speed, steering, anchor lock, autopilot heading, recorded path. Combined with the Ghost trolling motor's 360 chart overlay (which shows the motor's current direction relative to the chart), the integration delivers a complete bow-fishing control surface from the helm display. For boats running Ghost on the bow, the HDS PRO at the helm is the natural pairing.

Autopilot integration includes both Lowrance Outboard Pilot (for outboard-equipped boats) and standard NMEA 2000 autopilot integration (for autopilots from other manufacturers). For Outboard Pilot, the integration is direct and includes touchscreen access to all autopilot functions. For NMEA 2000 autopilots, the integration provides waypoint navigation and basic autopilot control via standard NMEA 2000 PGNs.

Programmable hardware keys below the touchscreen provide single-touch access to favorite functions. Most owners assign frequently-used operations (mark waypoint, switch to chart page, switch to ActiveTarget, etc.) to the keys for fastest access. Combined with the touchscreen, the HDS PRO offers both modern touch interface and traditional hardware-key reliability for wet-condition use.

What this isn't. It is not the smaller HDS PRO 9, 10, 12 (those are smaller-screen variants in the same line). It is not the HDS LIVE (the previous-generation line without SolarMAX HD). It is not the simpler Elite FS line (entry-level Lowrance fishfinder). For the biggest, brightest, most capable Lowrance MFD with the bundled Active Imaging HD transducer and C-MAP Discover charts, the HDS PRO 16 with this bundle is the right unit.

1-Year Limited Lowrance warranty. Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

What's actually in the box?

The HDS PRO 16 fishfinder / chartplotter head unit (with C-MAP Discover OnBoard charts preloaded), the Lowrance Active Imaging HD 3-in-1 transducer (part 000-16062-001), the bail mount with hardware, the power and data cabling, the protective sun cover, and the install / operation manual. The flush-mount kit is sold separately for installs that want a clean dash-flush appearance.

What's the difference between HDS PRO and HDS LIVE?

HDS PRO is the top-of-line Lowrance MFD platform with the SolarMAX HD display (the brightest and most readable Lowrance display), faster processing for handling high-resolution ActiveTarget 2 and Active Imaging HD data streams, full support for the latest networked accessories including Ghost trolling motor 360 chart overlays, and integrated touchscreen control of Power-Pole, Ghost, autopilot, and Outboard Pilot. HDS LIVE is the previous-generation line that still works well but lacks the SolarMAX HD display and the latest accessory integrations. For new flagship installs, HDS PRO is the right choice.

Why does the SolarMAX HD display matter?

Two reasons. (1) The display is brighter and more readable in direct sunlight than older Lowrance displays. (2) Polarized sunglasses compatibility: most boaters wear polarized sunglasses for glare reduction on the water, and many older marine displays go black or color-shift dramatically when viewed through polarized lenses. The SolarMAX HD handles polarized lenses normally, so the display works the same whether you're wearing sunglasses or not. Combined with wide viewing angles, the SolarMAX HD is meaningfully better than older Lowrance display tech.

What charts come preloaded?

C-MAP Discover OnBoard with 1-foot depth contours on more than 19,000 U.S. lakes and more than 9,400 Canadian lakes. Plus coastal coverage for U.S. waters. The 1-foot contour detail is significantly better than the basic mapping that ships with most chartplotters. For freshwater fishermen targeting structure, 1-foot contours show breaks, ledges, humps, and other features that wash out on coarser charts. Upgrade to C-MAP Reveal for additional aerial imagery overlay if needed.

What does the included Active Imaging HD transducer give me?

The 3-in-1 transducer (part 000-16062-001) handles three sonar functions from one transom-mountable body: Lowrance CHIRP traditional 2D sonar (Medium and High CHIRP at 83/200 kHz), high-definition SideScan Imaging (at 455 kHz, 800 kHz, and 1.2 MHz), and high-definition DownScan Imaging (same frequencies). Plus FishReveal smart target imaging overlays CHIRP fish marks onto the DownScan structure imagery. One transducer install instead of three separate ones.

What's ActiveTarget 2 and is it included?

ActiveTarget 2 is the Lowrance forward-facing live-scanning sonar that shows fish swimming around the boat in real time. The HDS PRO 16 head unit is ActiveTarget 2 ready, but the ActiveTarget 2 transducer is sold separately. For owners who already have an ActiveTarget 2 transducer or who plan to add one later, the HDS PRO 16 supports it natively. For owners adding ActiveTarget 2 to the install, budget for the separate transducer purchase.

What's FishReveal SideScan and what does it require?

FishReveal SideScan overlays CHIRP fish marks onto the SideScan view (similar to how the DownScan FishReveal overlays fish onto the DownScan view). For inshore fishing where you're searching with SideScan to find structure, FishReveal SideScan tells you which structure has fish on it without switching views. The SideScan version of FishReveal requires the S3100 sonar module and a compatible transducer (separate from the included Active Imaging HD transducer).

Can I control my Power-Pole and trolling motor from this?

Yes. Touchscreen control of compatible Power-Pole shallow water anchors lets you deploy and stow Power-Poles directly from the chartplotter. Touchscreen control of compatible Ghost trolling motors gives you full speed, steering, anchor lock, and autopilot from the chartplotter, plus the 360 chart overlay showing motor direction. For boats running Ghost on the bow, the HDS PRO is the natural helm pairing.

What's C-MAP Genesis Live?

Real-time mapping that records depth and bottom hardness as you drive the boat, building a custom bathymetric chart of the area. Save the resulting chart to the SD card and optionally sync to the Genesis cloud network for sharing or off-boat use. Especially useful for fishing small ponds and lakes that don't have detailed commercial coverage, or for mapping productive areas at finer resolution than commercial charts provide.

How big is it and how do I mount it?

The 16-inch chassis measures large enough that most installs are flush-mount in a custom-cut helm dash. The unit is also bracket-mountable with the included bail mount. The flush-mount kit is sold separately for the cleanest dash-flush install. Plan the install with a measurement template before cutting the dash.

Will my older Lowrance transducer work with it?

Most current and recent Lowrance transducers work directly via the standard transducer port. Older transducers may require an adapter cable. The Active Imaging HD transducer included with this bundle is the recommended pairing for the full HDS PRO feature set. For thru-hull installs or specialized applications, alternate Lowrance transducers are available separately.

What's the warranty?

Standard 1-Year Limited Lowrance warranty on parts and workmanship. Service runs through the Lowrance authorized dealer network in the U.S.
