Humminbird ICE HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G4 All-Season Combo — Product description

The Humminbird ICE HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G4 All-Season is the do-everything ice fishing flasher that doubles as a summer boat fishfinder. 7-inch HD color display, Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar with three-quarter inch target separation, precision built-in GPS, Humminbird Basemap and full LakeMaster compatibility, the premium shuttle with 15Ah lithium battery for the ice, and all the cabling you need to drop it on a boat when the ice melts. One unit, two seasons.

The Humminbird ICE HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G4 All-Season Combo (model 411760-1) is the all-season ICE HELIX configuration that hands you everything you need to fish the ice in winter and the boat in summer with the same head unit. The HELIX 7 head unit with Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar and precision GPS, the premium ice shuttle, the 15Ah lithium battery, the ice transducer, and the boat-mounting cabling and accessories. Pull it out of the shuttle, mount it on the boat, run the open-water transducer, and you're fishing without buying a second fishfinder.

What you actually get with the All-Season package. The HELIX 7 G4 head unit (Dual Spectrum CHIRP plus precision GPS plus a 7-inch 1024 x 600 HD color LCD), the premium portable shuttle with the carrying handle and the protected battery compartment, the 15Ah lithium ion battery sized for several days of ice fishing on a single charge, the ice transducer with the three-leg float for in-hole positioning, the 12V power cable for boat install, and the universal mount hardware for transom or RAM mount on the boat. The transducer for open-water boat use is sold separately if you need it (most owners already have one on the boat).

Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar is the headline sonar feature. Standard 200 kHz CHIRP plus a wider-spectrum CHIRP that combines multiple frequencies into a single return for tighter target separation. Three-quarter-inch target separation means individual fish in a tightly grouped school show up as discrete marks instead of merging into one fat blob. For ice fishing where fish are often stacked vertically in a small column under the hole, this is the difference between marking three fish and marking one. CHIRP works on both the flasher view and the traditional 2D sonar view simultaneously, so you get the high-resolution returns regardless of how you prefer to read the screen.

CHIRP Interference Rejection has six settings that handle the most common ice-fishing problem: someone else's flasher within range. When you're sharing a hole pattern with friends or fishing a popular spot, multiple flashers running on similar frequencies can interfere with each other and clutter every screen. The interference rejection adjustments shift the CHIRP frequencies and signal processing to filter out the interference. Cycle through settings until your screen clears, leave it there.

Precision GPS is built into the head unit. Six- or seven-meter GPS waypoint accuracy on the ice, which is much better than older ice flashers without GPS could offer. Mark your productive holes, navigate back to them on subsequent trips, share waypoints with friends. On the boat in summer, the same GPS becomes the chartplotter heart of the fishfinder. 2750 waypoint capacity is way more than you'll ever fill on a single body of water.

Humminbird Basemap built-in gives you a base level of chart coverage right out of the box. Underwater terrain shading, points of interest, marine markers, and shoreline detail. For most casual use the Basemap is enough. For serious LakeMaster lake-specific charting, drop a LakeMaster card in the SD slot and you get the unrivaled depth contour shading and the highlighted depth ranges that make LakeMaster the go-to chart for serious freshwater anglers. Also compatible with Navionics chart cards for owners who already have Navionics charts.

AutoChart Live ICE is the ice-specific mapping feature. Drive the boat (or in the case of ice, walk the holes) over the area you want to map, and the unit records depth contours and bottom hardness in real time. Build your own bathymetric chart of the spot you're fishing, save it, fish it next time with the chart on the screen. AutoChart Live is the same general feature available on summer HELIX models, but the ICE variant adapts the data acquisition to ice fishing's stationary measurement pattern.

Jig Charge Mode is the small feature ice anglers love. The unit charges jigs (and other small lures) with low-current pulses to enhance their visibility under low light conditions. The glow lasts about 15 to 20 minutes after charging, which is enough for the typical drop-and-jig sequence. Your light-sensitive jigging baits become much more effective in stained water and at first light or last light.

Adjustable Sonar Zoom lets you focus on the part of the water column where you actually have fish. 2X zoom on the flasher view and up to 16X zoom on the traditional 2D sonar view. Hone in on a single tight band of suspended fish, or zoom into the bottom hardness reading to read fish-holding bottom features. Standard sonar shows you the whole picture. Zoom shows you the part of the picture you care about.

Split-screen views let you run multiple presentations simultaneously. Flasher plus 2D sonar plus chart, or any two of those combinations. The 7-inch screen is big enough to make split-screen actually useful (smaller flashers force you to choose one view at a time).

The premium shuttle and 15Ah lithium battery are what separate the All-Season Combo from the bare-head SKU. The shuttle is the ice-fishing carry case that holds the head unit, the battery, the transducer, and your spare gear in one weather-tight package with a strap for carrying to the hole. The 15Ah lithium battery delivers more usable amp-hours than the older lead-acid batteries that ice anglers used for decades, lasts longer between charges, and weighs less. For a typical full day of ice fishing with the unit on continuously, you'll get more than enough runtime on a single charge. Lithium also handles cold weather better than lead-acid, which sags hard at low temperatures.

What this combo isn't. It is not a saltwater chartplotter (the GPS works in salt but the LakeMaster chart focus is freshwater). It is not the larger HELIX 9 or HELIX 12 if you want a bigger screen. It is not the MEGA-capable units that include MEGA Side Imaging or MEGA Down Imaging on the open-water side (those are the MEGA SI+ and MEGA DI+ HELIX models). For pure ice and freshwater open-water boat use, the HELIX 7 G4 All-Season is the sweet spot.

Frequently asked questions

What's actually in the box?

The HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G4 head unit, the premium portable shuttle with carry handle and protected battery compartment, the 15Ah lithium ion battery, the ice transducer with three-leg float, the 12V boat-mount power cable, the universal mount hardware for transom or RAM-mount install, and the install / owner's manual. The boat open-water transducer is sold separately if you need one (most owners already have one).

What does All-Season actually mean?

You can use this fishfinder for both ice fishing in winter and boat fishing in summer. The shuttle and lithium battery and ice transducer cover ice use. The boat-mount cabling and the standard transducer port cover open-water use on a boat. Pull the head unit out of the shuttle in spring, mount it on the boat, plug in your boat transducer, and you're fishing the open water with the same unit. No need to buy two fishfinders.

What's Dual Spectrum CHIRP?

Two CHIRP frequency ranges that work simultaneously. The narrow band gives you tight target separation for distinguishing individual fish in a tight school. The wide band covers more of the water column for better overall coverage. Together they produce three-quarter inch target separation, which means stacked fish show up as discrete marks instead of merging into one blob. For ice fishing where panfish and crappie often suspend in tight vertical groups, this is the most useful sonar feature on a modern flasher.

How long does the 15Ah lithium battery last?

For a typical full day of ice fishing with the unit on continuously and the screen at normal brightness, the 15Ah lithium battery delivers more than enough runtime on a single charge. Most users get two to three full ice fishing days before needing to recharge. Lithium ion handles cold temperatures much better than the older lead-acid batteries that ice flashers traditionally used (which sag hard below freezing). Charge time from empty to full is several hours on the included charger.

Will my LakeMaster cards work with this?

Yes. The HELIX 7 G4 has full LakeMaster compatibility. Drop a LakeMaster chart card in the microSD slot and you get the unrivaled lake-specific depth contour shading, highlighted depth ranges, and the scrollable lake list that has made LakeMaster the standard for serious freshwater fishermen. Also accepts Navionics chart cards for owners who already use Navionics charts.

What's AutoChart Live ICE?

It's the feature that lets you build your own bathymetric chart of the spot you fish. Walk the holes (or drive the boat in summer) and the unit records depth and bottom hardness data in real time. Save the resulting chart to the SD card and fish that spot next time with your own chart on the screen. Especially useful for fishing small ponds and lakes that don't have detailed LakeMaster coverage, or for mapping a specific productive area in finer detail than commercial charts provide.

What's Jig Charge Mode?

Glow jigs and other phosphorescent baits need to be exposed to light to glow in the water. Jig Charge Mode applies low-current electrical pulses through the transducer to charge glow jigs without removing them from the water. The glow lasts about 15 to 20 minutes after charging, which is enough for the typical drop-and-jig sequence. Useful in stained water and at first light or last light when low-light visibility is the difference between fish bites and no bites.

Can I use this in saltwater?

You can run the GPS in saltwater and the unit itself works fine in marine environments, but the chart focus is freshwater. LakeMaster and the Humminbird Basemap are freshwater-oriented. For saltwater coastal fishing you'd want CoastMaster cards, which are also compatible with the HELIX 7 G4. For serious saltwater offshore use, look at the Humminbird HELIX 9 or HELIX 12 SI/DI models with MEGA capability and the larger screens.

How does CHIRP Interference Rejection help?

When you're fishing near other anglers running flashers on similar frequencies, the competing sonar signals show up as clutter on your screen. Interference Rejection has six settings that shift your CHIRP processing to filter out the competing signals. Cycle through settings until your screen clears. Especially useful in popular ice fishing spots where multiple flashers are running within range.

Is the GPS accurate enough to find a small ice fishing hole next trip?

Yes. The precision GPS in the HELIX 7 G4 typically delivers six- to seven-meter accuracy, which is more than enough to navigate back to a productive hole on subsequent trips. Mark the waypoint when you find a good spot, drill a new hole at the same waypoint next trip and you'll be within a meter or two of where you were before. The 2750 waypoint capacity covers any reasonable ice-fishing season.

What's the screen brightness like?

The 7-inch HD color LCD is bright enough to read in direct sun on the ice (which is some of the brightest light conditions you'll ever fish in, since the snow reflects everything). At night and in low-light conditions, adjustable backlight handles the dark equally well. The display performs about as well as any current-generation marine fishfinder display in marine and ice-fishing conditions.

What's the warranty?

Standard 1-Year limited Humminbird warranty on parts and workmanship. Service runs through the Humminbird authorized dealer network in the U.S.
